Acquisition services in the field of borehole and shallow marine seismology.

Paulsson Companies (PI) are using the latest borehole seismic and shallow ocean bottom acquisition technology. PI is offering to undertake turn key projects including all aspects of borehole and shallow marine seismic surveys.

In particular PI provides the following borehole and shallow marine seismic services:

  1. 3D VSP services using 100 level receiver arrays.
  2. 4D (Time Lapse) VSP services using 100 level receiver arrays.
  3. Multi offset 2D VSP services using 100 level receiver arrays.
  4. Zero offset and offset VSP services.
  5. Fracture mapping services using borehole seismic instrumentation.
  6. Permanent installation of proprietary borehole seismic arrays for the monitoring of primary production or enhanced oil recovery processes using active seismic techniques.
  7. Passive micro seismic monitoring and imaging of primary or enhanced oil recovery processes using either retrievable or permanent borehole seismic arrays.
  8. Shallow marine seismic surveys using cables with 3C geophones.

Borehole Seismic Surveys

Instruments

Paulsson Companies (PI) offers borehole seismic survey using one or several 100 level arrays. The 100 level borehole seismic arrays available currently available from Paulsson International include:

Sercel MaxiWave array using omni directional 15 Hz geophones. This is a 100 level wireline deployed array. This array is available immediately.
PI proprietary array using omni directional 15 Hz geophones. This is a drill pipe deployed array which can be deployed in deviated or horizontal wells. Using this technology PI can deploy as many as 600 3C levels in one well. The first unit will be operational in 2010.
PI proprietary drill pipe deployed array using omni directional fiber optic geophones. The fiber optic sensor technology will allow up to 3,000 channels, or 1,000 3C levels, in one array. The first unit will be operational in 2010.

Survey Details for Borehole Seismic surveys

Paulsson Companies (PI) can deploy its 100 level arrays in either vertical (wireline array) or horizontal (tubing based array) well and record data from seismic sources deployed on the surface. The standard spacing of the 100 level wireline based array is 15 m. This array is thus 1,500 m long. The standard spacing for the tubing deployed arrays is receiver arrays is 50 ft (15.24 m). The tubing deployed array is thus 5,000 ft long.

PI will record the borehole seismic data on commercial recording systems identical to the systems used for surface seismic surveys. Examples include Sercel 428 or Geometrics recording systems.

The deployment time for the each of the systems, either the Sercel MaxiWave system or the PI proprietary system is about the same. Each geophone pod takes about 6 min to deploy with either system. A 100 level system will thus take 600 min = 10 hours to put in the well bore before the first data can be recorded.

Shallow Marine Seismic Surveys

Instruments

Paulsson Companies (PI) offers shallow marine seismic surveys using one or several 100 pod cable based arrays. The 100 pod marine seismic arrays available currently available from the Paulsson Companies include:

  1. Geometrics ocean bottom receivers.
  1. PI proprietary 3C array using omni directional 15 Hz geophones. This is a 100 pod array that can be placed on the ocean floor.
  1. PI proprietary 3C array using omni directional fiber optic geophones. This is a 100 – 1,000 pod array that can be placed on the ocean floor. The first unit will be operational in 2010.

Survey Details for Shallow Marine Seismic surveys

PI can deploy its 100 3C pod array on the ocean floor to a depth of 3,000 ft. (1,000 m).

PI will record the data on commercial recording systems such as used for surface seismic surveys. Examples include Sercel 428 or Geometrics recording systems.
